Regional Consultative Meeting towards Networking of Drug Demand and Harm Reduction NGOs 17-19 February 2014 – Tehran, Iran

 

While honoring the efforts of the Islamic Republic of Iran in hosting the event and assistance made, we-the participants of the Regional Consultative Meeting towards Networking of Drug Demand and Harm Reduction NGOs- announce that despite the efforts made by the countries, international organizations, civil societies and NGOs, the global problem of drug is still a serious threat towards health, dignity, safety and welfare of human.

We believe that controlling the problem of drug needs new approaches and measures which are scientific and evidence-base and utilizing or benefiting from valuable experience and local knowledge of the additional countries and additional activists in this field.

We- the activists in the field of drug demand and harm reduction from different countries of the region – gathered together to emphasize on the role of the NGOs in this field while highlighting the importance of the drug demand and harm reduction programmes in controlling the consequences of drug abuse. We hope that formation of this network and moving in this path be like a landmark in the field of drug demand and harm reduction in the region while providing necessary backgrounds for intentional interactions and achieving the objectives 

While highlighting the points reflected in the constitution as a reference for joint activities, we are committed to utilize national and international capacities to achieving the objectives of the constitution and with active and full participation in decision making and activities of the network, we are committed to improve the efficiency of the network.

We hope following releasing this document and the election of the executive committee, the member countries in the region shall facilitate the process of legalization and registration of this network in the region.

While emphasizing on cooperation and effective interactions with other regional and international networks, we hope that formation of this network become a start for formation of new partnerships in the region and we are inviting other active NGOs in the field of drug demand and harm reduction for membership in this network.

Finally the participants of the meeting, would like to thank the Drug Control Headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran, United Nations office on Drugs and Crime in Iran and the Regional Programme of the UNODC for organization of this event and
